Hidden Gems in Sardinia: Su Gologone & Cannigione Travel Guide

Tucked away in the hills of Sardinia, the Su Gologone Experience Hotel feels like a hidden retreat before you even step inside. We arrived here to unwind for a few days before our weeklong sailing trip, and it turned out to be the perfect place to slow down and soak up some Sardinian charm. Think colorful, hand-painted tiles, quiet courtyards filled with beautiful florals, and a backdrop of rugged mountains.

Day 1 at Su Gologone

We arrived at Su Gologone and immediately felt the stress of the travel day melt away. Our room was colorful and full of character – a perfect little retreat. After grabbing a relaxed lunch, we spent the afternoon lounging by the pool, soaking up the Sardinian sun and taking in the mountain views.

Before dinner, we made our way to one of the hotel’s bars with sweeping views of the surrounding hills. The cocktails were incredible, and the scenery was even better. It quickly became our favorite spot, and we ended up stopping by both nights – there’s nothing like a sunset drink to kick off a new leg of a vacation.

Day 2 at Su Gologone

We started the day with breakfast in the hotel’s main dining area, which is absolutely stunning – such a bright, colorful space to kick off the morning. Afterward, we decided to take a short drive into town, but it was pretty short-lived thanks to the winding roads and my motion sickness – haha! We did make a quick stop at a charming local spot just down the street from the hotel to grab a Coke and relax for a bit.

Back at the hotel, a few of us had booked massages, so we slipped straight into full-on relaxation mode. While we were indulging, my aunt took a ceramics class – they offer activities to suit a variety of interests, which was such a fun touch.

Later that evening, we had a very special dinner lined up: a centenarian-themed meal celebrating the foods and culture of Sardinia’s famous Blue Zone. If you’re not familiar, a Blue Zone is a region where an unusually high number of people live past 100. These areas have been studied to uncover what contributes to their remarkable longevity, and this dinner was a delicious, immersive way to experience those traditions firsthand.

Day 3: Cannigione and Preparing for Our Sailing Adventure

On our last morning at Su Gologone, we enjoyed one final breakfast before starting the drive north to Cannigione, the town where we’d catch our catamaran. We stayed at the Cala di Falco Hotel, which is in a fantastic, walkable part of town and offered excellent service.

After checking in, the girls were eager to explore Porto Cervo for some shopping. The area is stunning, filled with every designer store you could imagine. My sister and I couldn’t resist and ended up treating ourselves to matching Dior sandals – a little souvenir from our Sardinian adventure.

After picking up cigars for the guys, we wrapped up the day with a relaxed dinner and wine on the hotel room patio, soaking in the atmosphere and excitement for our sailing trip, which was set to begin the next morning

Sardinia was the perfect prelude to our sailing adventure: a mix of relaxation, incredible food, and beautiful scenery. From the mountain retreat at Su Gologone to the chic seaside town of Cannigione, it was a few days full of culture, indulgence, and memories we’ll never forget.

Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO
