Appenzell Switzerland: Swiss Countryside and a Quaint Mill

Let me introduce you to the cutest town in Switzerland called Appenzell. When my sister and I were in Zurich everyone told us that it would be what most tourists picture all of Switzerland, and they weren’t wrong. From the lush rolling hills, to a downtown area that looks straight out of a fairytale, what’s not to love! The town even had a festival while we were there, and I randomly got interviewed on Swiss TV. Talk about taking the blog international hahah

While we were in Appenzell we stayed at our friends parents house and WOW… what an incredible place with the most inviting family!

One of the mornings we headed to the mountains to do a little (well a lot) of hiking. I’m not normally a “outdoorsy” person, but it was so worth it to see the Äscher cliff restaurant which is nestled up on the top of the mountain. I highly recommend grabbing a pastry and a hot cocoa there if you go!

Although my calves were out of this world sore for about a week after we did the hike, it was 100% worth it! Especially since we got to drink beer on the way down and came home to a delicious home cooked meal!

The Mill

Right down the road from where we stayed is an old mill that my friends family owns to showcase his mother’s art. Carmela is an amazing artists and even has her own Art Gallery downtown Appenzell!

Every room of the Mill is decorated so beautifully!

My favorite part of the house might be the backyard! We ate dinner out here our last night and it couldn’t have been a better way to end our time in Switzerland!

Thanks for stopping by! Have you ever been to Switzerland?

XOXO,
